More Tower Bridge

We were lucky enough to see the bridge being raised and lowered for a boat at the end of the evening.

We enjoyed our penultimate walk today.  There is so much to see in and around London and it is good to see the river well-used,  plenty of boats going along it making use of the many piers, there is even a rib boat (a large power boat) which goes along the river.  There is plenty of opportunity to walk or run alongside the Thames and a lot of the famous London landmarks are alongside it.  The runners can sometimes be a bit of an issue as they are often business people who run in their lunchtimes in groups and tend to take up a lot of room on the path!  

Relaxation

With only one walk left we thought we had earned a bit of relaxation (and obviously food and drink!)

Sent to the Tower!

Our Destination

We were approaching our destination - Tower Bridge.  That would make a good photo of the bridge.

More Landmarks

Some easier to spot landmarks - St. Pauls and the Gherkin.

The Millenium Bridge and the Globe Theatre.  We wanted to take this photo of the Globe because we took Brendan and Andy there in the evening as a thank you for being our support team.  What did we go and see?  The Merry Wives of WINDSOR of course!

Pedal Power

A nice row of shiny new Barclay Bikes, and no we didn't cheat and ride to the end of the walk.  I'm not saying it wasn't tempting but they were all locked up and we didn't have a key!

Landmarks

Contrary to appearances this is not a picture of barges on the Thames or a giant crane but actually of the London Eye (below the crane) and the Palace of Westminister (to the right of the crane).  Angela really needs to get a better camera!

A Well-Known Landmark

We crossed Chelsea Bridge to continue along the North Bank for the rest of today's walk.  There is still a debate about what to do about the old Battersea Power Station but, as Angela once went to see Cirque Du Soleil near it, it seemed worth a photo.  There are some lovely new flats in the area between Wandsworth and Battersea - there is definitely a lot more being made of the river now.

More Old Haunts

Another trip down Memory Lane for Catherine as she used to go to work along the road on the other side of the river.  Look how wide the river is now!

Buddhist Peace Pagoda

Are we still in London or have we moved to Japan?  This pagoda was to be found in Battersea Park and was apparently a gift from a Japanese order in 1985.

Worrying Sign

Despite the recent rain there didn't seem much chance of this area flooding at the moment but we have definitely crossed this one off our list of possible retirement places.

The River Wandle

The area around Wandsworth was Catherine's old stamping ground and as we couldn't find her old school we decided to take a photo of the River Wandle an area she often frequented when she was young(er) than she is now.

At Putney Bridge

Travelling light today so that everyone will be able to see why we are walking.  Although actually it was pretty cold so we had to wear our coats for some of the way - no rain though which was good considering the amount that has fallen recently.  Do you like our new T-shirts?
