At Chertsey Bridge

We nipped across the road to the Kingfisher for a quick sandwich and Andy and Brendan came to meet us and take the all-important photo at the end.

As I said it was a lovely walk.  We particularly liked Pharaohs Island with some nice properties just across the water after Shepperton.  The little ferry journey makes this leg a bit different.  There were lots of people fishing along this stretch.

Dumpsey Mead

Spoke too soon!
This is Dumpsey Mead just before Chertsey.

Relaxing On a Balcony?

The figure you can see relaxing on the balcony is actually a model of a policeman.
This has been a lovely walk with plenty of houses but not feeling enclosed and too built-up.  It has been easy walking with good paths and no fields with large animals to walk through.

Shepperton

After less than five minutes the ferry is just about to land in Shepperton (not Chertsey honestly!)

On, Not By, the River

The ferryman was a nice young lad but he thought we should have stayed in Kingston and gone shopping!  We considered asking him to take us to Chertsey.

Ferry Cross the Thames

Here comes the trusty ferry!

At Weybridge

The reason the bell wasn't in use was because of the work going on to the moorings along the river bank here so the ferry departure point had been moved (meaning we had a walk a little bit further).  The radio was missing but there was a telephone number for us to call for the ferry.  We were only allowed to call on the quarter hour and it was just after 1.45 so we settled down to enjoy the view and rest until 2.

Ground Control to Major Tom

Don't panic we can call the ferry on the radio!  We read through all the instructions and were ready to go but where was the radio?

For Whom the Bell Tolls

Actually it doesn't toll for anyone.  You probably can't see it but the sign says "BELL NOT IN USE".  This was the bell we were supposed to ring (only on the quarter hour) to summon the ferry to take us over to the other bank (not all the way to Chertsey as Tim suspected).  We were talking this over with Debbie and Carmelo, Tracy and Peter, Josephine, Andy and Brendan last night and they were a bit concerned that we might have trouble here but none of us expected that we would not be able to ring the bell.  What shall we do now?

Another Challenge

A definite hazard particularly as we have to catch a ferry across the river just a couple of hundred yards behind that sign.

Walton Bridge

According to our book this is the "least attractive" bridge on the Thames.  I must admit we tend to agree.

Idyllic Spot

There were lots of these bungalows in between Sunbury and Walton on Thames - a very nice spot.

Should We Be on the Other Side?

Is this bush trying to tell us something?

At Hampton Court

Do you like our second home?

On Our Way to Chertsey

About to set out from Kingston after chatting to an elderly fisherman for a while.  Why is it always the old men who want to talk to us?
