The End of Our Walk

We walked to the bridge at Eton and then walked back to have our drink and share a sandwich.  Brendan met us and took our photo outside the restaurant as we were too tired to walk back to the bridge!

We found a better view of Windsor Castle when we were walking back to the car.

I must admit that Staines and Chertsey conjured up images of Thorpe Park and the M25 but this walk was really lovely in places and quite peaceful-looking although we did see, or more correctly hear, a lot of planes going over so it didn't sound peaceful!

Nearly There

This time Angela is pointing to Windsor Castle (honestly).  We had to change to the other bank before this as the Queen didn't want us to walk on her land.

Runnymede

Angela is pointing to a memorial at Runnymede which may or may not have anything to do with the Magna Carta there seem to be three memorials mentioned in the book.  It was good to see so many people out enjoying the sunshine in Runnymede meadow - parties of elderly people and people with disabilities.

Floating Hotel

This narrow boat was actually a hotel although I can't imagine that it holds many guests.  The couple sitting on deck there were having a relaxing time.

Coal Tax Post

This is one for Peter.  He was looking forward to seeing one of these on the route.  You left us too soon Peter we saw this just after Staines.  Our usually informative book told us nothing about it but if you want some more information go to:

The trouble with not doing the blog straightaway is that you can't remember the witty thing you thought of saying when you took the photo.  Can you remember Catherine or Peter?

At the start

O.K. so this photo was taken on 24th June not 4th July.  Those weddings I mentioned before have happened since the walk so I haven't had time to blog but Catherine may well have tweeted - we are quite proud of our technological wizardry.

Anyway here we are at Chertsey ready to go on a lovely day, although luckily not so hot as we were expecting, which meant it was easier for walking and Angela didn't have to wear the stupid hat.

As you can see we had company.  Peter and Wyn had planned to join us today but unfortunately Wyn wasn't feeling well.  Peter still came along though and he gave up his golfing day to join us.
